The GRHC has hosted some wonderful educational lectures and demonstrations during the last part of 2017 and early part of 2018. We hope that you were able to attend some of them. In December 2017, we presented a lecture by Lise Krieger on "Saddle Fit and Repair". Then in January, Samantha Smith presented a lecture entitled "Equine Wellness and Essential Oils". In February, Equine Dentist, Nicole Lombardo, gave us a lecture on "Equine Dentistry". Finally, in March, the GRHC hosted a lecture and demonstration from Barb Macon of Sterling Rewards Natural Horsemanship on training techniques, obstacles, and becoming a better partner with your horse. All of the lectures and demonstrations were well attended and those who came got lots of information. We'd like to thank all of the lecturers for their time and expertise. We really appreciate it.
For pleasure trail rides in 2018, we hosted a few. The first is on the list was supposed to take place on Sunday, May 20th with GRHC's Spring Pleasure Ride at the Wagon Wheel Campground in Warwick, MA. Unfortunately, it was canceled due to rain on that day. While mother nature did not smile on us in 2018, we hope to have a ride or perhaps an overnight cam pout there in 2019. Keep checking the 2019 calendar for that. On Sunday, August 19th the GRHC held it's Summer Pleasure Ride. While it was fun, the terrain was rockier than when we had a ride there years ago. Apparently, the steady rain in 2018 washed out many or the road with big rocks. Those who attended still had a good time and a great meal after the ride. On Sunday, October 7th we hosted GRHC's Fall Foliage Ride & Feast. It took place at Birch Hill Dam Recreation Area and the adjacent Lake Dennison Recreation Area. We had a wonderful chicken dinner with all the fixings plus dessert after the ride and rode on some beautiful, marked trails of both areas. The GRHC hadn't been to this area in many years so it was a treat to go back.
For competitive events we, once again, had GRHC's Poker Ride on Sunday, September 9th, at Dufresne Park in Granby, MA. Several riders came to this fun event, many riding directly from their homes in Granby. Prizes and ribbons were awarded to the top 5 hands and a meal was served after the ride. Finally, we presented GRHC's traditional McDonald's Nature Preserve Trail Ride & Obstacle Course on Sunday, October 21st in Wilbraham, MA. Again several people attended and we had fun tackling the man-made obstacles in the field after the ride. We feasted on Chicken Alfredo and other temptations after the ride. Ribbons and prizes were awarded in all divisions.
We had two parades in 2018. First on June 10th, we participated in Granby's 250th Anniversary Parade through town. The GRHC was represented by several riders and one driver who drove a cute Hardliner. Then in September, we returned to participate in the Belchertown Fair Parade
Finally, we hosted GRHC's Annual Open Horse Show w on Sunday, June 24th at Dufresne Park in Granby, MA. Several competitors and spectators attended. Many local businesses made generous donations to sponsor the show.
We look forwarded to 2019. As always, please contact us with suggestions for events, lectures, and educational clinics. Keep checking our website of www.GranbyRegionalHorse.org our face book page. www.facebook.com/granbyregionalhorse
